Gardener’s Notes: Direct sow in spring when weather is warm and nights have reached 50-55°F (10-13°C). Plant seeds in fertile, well-drained soil 1-2 inches deep and 4-6 inches apart. Space rows 11/2 feet apart. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged. Mulching retains moisture and suppresses weeds. Pick beans often when pods are full-sized but still tender to encourage production. Beans can also be left to dry for seeds or winter storage.
