Gardener’s Notes: Plants thrive in cool weather. In early spring, as soon as ground can be worked, sow seeds 2 inches apart into rich, well-drained soil. When several inches tall, thin or transplant seedlings 6-8 inches apart so plants have room to mature. Keep well-weeded and watered. Fertilize every 2-3 weeks with a high-nitrogen fertilizer. Harvest when heads are plump and filled out. Sow again in late summer for a quick fall harvest.
