Gardener’s Notes: In early spring as soon as soil can be worked, prepare a well-drained, fertile garden bed in full sun. Sow seeds 1-2 inches apart in rows 6-8 inches apart. Cover 1/4 inch deep and keep soil evenly moist. When seedlings are 3-4 inches tall, thin to stand 4-6 inches apart. Consistent moisture, early thinning and an adequate supply of nitrogen will yield the best growth. Sow again in late summer for a fall crop.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
Gai lan is a cool-season, quick-growing crop with a mild and sweet flavor similar to broccoli. Harvest stems when 1/2-3/4 inch thick, just before flower buds open. Leave 2-3 leaf nodes and they will regrow for a second harvest. Besides great flavor, gai lan is packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
