This reusable row cover enables you to start planting earlier in spring and/or retain warmth in cool fall weather for a longer harvesting season. Plants will push the row cover fabric up as they grow, or you can lay it over flexible ½ inch poly tubing hoops. Once tried, you won’t garden without it!

Each package contains a 6.9 ft. x 32 ft. length of netting and weighs .74 oz. per sq. yd. Mesh is 0.35 mm x 0.35 mm with 93 % light transmission and 62% porosity.

Using the right seed starting mix is critical for successful germination of tiny seeds and sturdy, fast growing seedlings. We use and recommend this top-quality, organic compost-based mix from Vermont Compost Company, a trusted source of organic growers and gardeners since 1992.

This well-balanced, complete germinating mix is good for both indoor and outdoor use and will increase the mineral and antioxidant levels of your seedlings and provide good moisture retention at a crucial stage in their development. A great choice to give your seeds the best possible start in life.

Carefully blended from expertly composted manure, blonde horticultural grade sphagnum peat moss, perlite, blood meal, kelp meal, steamed bone meal, mined gypsum, vermiculite and washed coconut coir, all ingredients have been approved for certified organic production.

We trialed it against three other popular seed starting mixes and it outperformed all the others – you can see how lush, green and vigorous our Italian Genovese basil seedlings grew in the photos at left.

Before you sow seeds, be sure to wet your soil mix with tepid water and incorporate it evenly throughout, so moisture levels are uniform. Your moistened mix should have the consistency of a wrung-out sponge before planting.

Captain Jack’s Liquid Copper Fungicide offers organic gardeners a safe way to control fungal diseases that affect vegetables, flowers, herbs, fruit trees, and shrubs. It is effective on black spot, rust, early and late blight, powdery and downy mildew, peach leaf curl and many other common garden diseases (see below). 

Captain Jack’s is approved for organic gardening and can be applied up to the day of harvest. We rely on it for controlling powdery mildew and other diseases that attack cucumbers, squash, zucchinis, pumpkins, melons and flowers such as zinnias, coreopsis and hollyhocks in the middle and end of summer. It is also an excellent preventative spray to use in the winter dormant season to prevent and control overwintering disease spores on perennials and fruit rot and peach leaf curl on fruit trees. 

The 16-ounce bottle is an economical concentrate, convenient to dilute and spray as needed. Be sure to start applications before you notice disease, or just as soon as you can see symptoms. Another fine British import, this featherweight 5’ x 5’ waterproof garden tarp is made of high quality, UV-resistant polypropylene with durable, double-stitched handles at each of the four corners – just gather them up to move the contents. It’s the perfect size to become your workhorse material mover; we find endless uses for it in the garden.

Need to re-pot a big container plant? Just tip out the used soil right onto the tarp. Need to clean out a garden bed full of weeds or plant debris? Dump all the green waste on the open tarp and grab the corner handles to shuttle it all neatly to your compost or recycling bin, leaving the ground pristine. You can rake leaves, divide plants, mix potting soil, prune shrubs and more, all while keeping everything neatly contained for easy disposal. Voila!

Potting Tray With Endless Uses

It’s no fun to clean up spilled potting mix when you are actively gardening, and this handy tray solves the problem once and for all. We’ve had ours for over 20 years and are so pleased to discover a good supplier so we can now offer them! Made from recycled polypropylene, this lightweight but tough tray is large enough so you can set both empty pots and a bag of potting soil in it to fill pots; move started seedlings into larger containers; fill seed starting trays or mix water or amendments into dry potting mix. Any loose or excess soil falls into the tray, so it’s easy to scoop up with no loss and no mess.

Our potting tray is dirt and water resistant and cleans quickly with a spritz of water from a hose. Tip: we store gloves, trowels, etc. in the potting tray at the end of the day so we will know where to find everything ready to go!

This classic, sustainably sourced, 3-ply garden twine is made of natural jute fiber and is truly indispensable for a wide variety of garden tasks. Plant Protection That Works! 

In principle, we all love bunnies and deer, but when either of these animals (or both!) appear in your garden to ravage your carefully tended edible and ornamental plants, they cause havoc. A great solution is to apply Liquid Fence Deer and Rabbit Repellent spray, the best animal deterrent we have found.  

Strong smelling when sprayed on foliage, the scent and taste deterring formula repels critters before they feed. Once the foliage dries, there is no detectable odor, but plants remain unpalatable. The non-toxic formula won't harm animals or plants.   

To use liquid fence, spray it liberally on plants in dry weather, completely wetting foliage. Repeat application one week later, then once a month. Spray again after significant rain. Deer and rabbits’ aversion to this product doesn’t diminish over time – you can keep using the spray all season. Easy to apply with our Multi-Use Pump Sprayer.
