Bonus Pack Wheatgrass For Juicing
GROW IN POTS INDOORS OR OUT
Wheatgrass can be grown indoors year round; it prefers temperatures between 65-75° F (18 to 24° C) or or grow outdoors in pots after spring weather is warm, and nights are over 50° F (10° C). This generous packet provides more than enough seed for 6 separate sowings in 6 inch pots. Disinfect pots before use by soaking in a solution of 1 part bleach and 9 parts water for 30 minutes and air dry.
GROWING AND HARVESTING
Fill a 6 inch in diameter or larger pot (that has a drainage hole) with moistened organic planting mix. Sprinkle seeds evenly over the surface about 1/4 inch apart. Cover 1/2 inch deep with planting mix. Water gently but thoroughly. Check often; keep moist but not soggy. Keep pot in bright light or full sun. Harvest by cutting with scissors when wheatgrass is 4 to 6 inches tall, about 10 to 14 days after sowing. Wheatgrass grows back for a second harvest, but the second harvest will be weaker.
For a constant supply, sow more seeds in a new pot weekly, always using fresh soil mix. Harvest and use pots of grass in succession. After the second harvest in each pot, discard and start again with more seeds and fresh soil mix. (Each sowing uses up the available nutrients in soil mix so discard and use fresh mix) A 6 inch pot of wheatgrass will yield about 5 to 6 ounces of fresh juice.
HOW TO USE
Wheatgrass must be consumed as juice. If you want to juice regularly, we recommend buying a specialized wheatgrass juicer, which makes juicing easy and produces a superior product. A lesser, but passable alternative is to put a handful of cut wheatgrass in a blender with a cup of water, blend until liquefied and carefully strain out pulp from the juice. Drink immediately or keep refrigerated and drink soon: juice loses quality and nutrient value quickly. Drink 1 ounce of wheatgrass juice per day for general health.

To Start Early Indoors
Sow seeds 1 inch apart in a container of well-drained seed starting mix 4 to 6 weeks before last expected frost date. Cover ¼ inch deep, keep moist and provide a strong light source until ready to go outside. Transplant into individual containers once seedlings have 2 to 3 sets of true leaves. Transplant into garden once weather warms up after gradually acclimating seedlings to outdoor conditions.
To Plant Outdoors
Sow seeds directly into wellworked garden soil in full sun once all danger of frost is past. Space seeds 1 inch apart and cover about ¼ inch deep. Keep soil evenly moist while awaiting germination in 7 to 14 days.
Plant Spacing
When well established, thin or transplant seedlings 9 to 12 inches apart so plants have room to mature. You can transplant extra seedlings when thinning.

To Start Indoors
Sow seeds thinly in a container of seed starting mix. Press gently into mix, but do not cover. Provide a good light source. Keep evenly moist as seedlings slowly emerge in 10 to 21 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle, acclimate gradually to outdoor conditions. Transplant clusters of 3 to 5 seedlings 8 to 10 inches apart in full sun.
To Plant Directly in the Garden
When warm spring weather arrives, sow in full sun in a wellworked, finely textured soil with good drainage. Sow seed as thinly as possible, but do not cover as seeds need light to germinate. Tend carefully, keeping seedbed evenly moist and well-weeded. Plants double as a waterwiseornamental prized for its soft, velvety gray-green foliage.
Harvest And Use:
After harvest, dried Za’atar leaves can be mixed with ground sumac, toasted sesame seeds and salt to make the classic spice blend also known as “za’atar.” Dried leaves are traditionally sprinkled on salads, alongside a bowl of olive oil for dipping toasted pitas and flatbreads, and to season chicken or lamb. Best added at the end of cooking to maintain flavor.

To Start Directly in the Garden
When late spring weather reaches 55°F (13°C) both day and night, sow seeds 1 inch apart in wellworked, fertile soil in full sun. Cover ¼ inch deep, firm soil and keep seed bed moist. Germination takes 1 to 2 weeks. After seedlings are well established, thin or transplant 8 inches apart, which allows plants enough elbow room to grow and mature.
To Start Early Indoors
Sow seeds 1 to 2 inches apart in a container of fresh seed starting mix, 4 weeks before last expected frost. Keep warm and evenly moist, and provide a good light source. Feed with ½ strength liquid fertilizer every 10 days. Once weather warms outdoors, acclimate seedlings to outdoor conditions, then transplant 8 inches apart into the garden.
Growing Notes
Grow in full sun and welldrained soil. Plants are heat and drought-tolerant once established. In cold winter climates, grow this tender perennial as a productive annual, or plant in containers to overwinter indoors before the first hard frost.
Pinch back growing tips to encourage a bushy habit and maximize foliage. In late summer, enjoy the bonus of bright yellow, edible flowers that attract pollinators.

Heirloom Herbs - Stevia
Tender Perennial
Hardy to USDA Zone 9.
Best to Start Indoors
Start seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before last spring frost. Sow 1 inch apart and 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep in fine seed starting mix. Maintain at 70°F (24°C), keep moist but not soggy. Be patient: Small seeds germinate slowly over 14 to 21 days. Provide a strong light source once sprouted.
When plants have several leaf sets, transplant into 4-inch pots. Move outdoors into full sun and well-drained soil after danger of frost has passed, spacing 10 to 12 inches apart in the garden. For containers, plant each start into at least a 3-gallon pot.
Growing Notes
Stevia has a naturally low germination rate but is easy to grow once established, thriving in sun, part shade and well-drained soil.
In mild winter climates, Stevia is an evergreen perennial that benefits from some pruning. In colder areas, grow as annual or in large containers. To overwinter indoors, prune heavily before first frost, place in a cool, well-lit room, and water sparingly until spring.
Harvest and Use
Harvest leaves in the morning for peak sweetness and pinch branch tips frequently to encourage bushy growth. Use whole fresh leaves to sweeten teas or lemonades. Air-dry stems in the shade until crisp and grind into a fine powder. Makes a wonderful, calorie-free sugar substitute for baking.
